Language Alert!
I used to wonder how any "decent" society could become as it was (purportedly) in the days of Lot. Good Lot welcomed strangers into his home: primarily to protect them from marauding sexual predators!
I wonder no longer.
A people given to sexual license and promiscuity, once everyone is “doing it” — and, I imagine, nearly everyone now is “doing it” — has nothing to hide or “be ashamed” of. Eventually, even the innocent and the virtuous succumb to peer pressure, the appeal of promised “pleasure”, and the sanction of those “in authority”.
Where can be found deep and abiding friendship, companionship, life-long joy, even love amidst all this moral sewage and sexual wreckage?
Nowhere.
I fear for the rising generation — seeking “love” in all the wrong places — hopelessly adrift in filthy waters, where everyone they meet has been (or will be) “caught” in society's sexual “riptide”.
I’m worried for my children — especially for those who have become (or may soon become) unmoored from the moral restraints that (still, once) dominated our culture.
That culture has been dismantled. (Even among the Mormons.) ALL sexual restraint and propriety -- between consenting adults…and even between consenting adolescents -- has been removed. That which was (once) done in secret (if at all) is (now) shouted (and celebrated!) from the rooftops.
But for the love of God, nothing now supports one striving to abstain from the blood and sins of this adulterous generation.

We are funny creatures. Animals, really, possessed by spirits (some of whom are gods, others dogs).
Sometimes I wonder if the better perspective is to consider the end-goal of nobody wanting to have offspring, and even if they do, they would rather somebody else raise them.
ReplyDeleteIf that is the end-goal, then who cares if you get the youngsters in Japan to be totally uninterested in sexual relationships, or if you get sex-crazed Americans obsessed with casual hookups.
Or you could get a bunch of people who want long-term relationships to be more interested in them with the same sex.
No matter what methodology is utilized, the end — nobody wants to have and raise their own offspring — can been reached by any of those means, and possibly many others too.
Well, Benm, whose end-goal is that, to limit offspring? The Father's? Or the devil's?

ReplyDeleteBy the way, I didn't mention before but I appreciate you posting this article. I wouldn't have found it otherwise, and it's a great (but sad) example of how our society is taking our state of promiscuity from what seemed like it couldn't have possibly gotten worse to an even worse state. I guess our society will just keep on trucking even more in that direction.

In all the fear-mongering about wars and rumors of wars (Syria, Ukraine, etc.) this discussion reminds me of the teachings of the Savior recorded in Matthew 10:28;
